en plein air

Plein air painting can be a challenge, but its rewards are great! For me it is about getting out into nature, and experiencing it with all my senses. The sounds, smells, the air, the warmth of the sun (or cold), the movement of the clouds, the light….everything plays into the heightened awareness of the moment you are trying to capture. These ‘starts’, or ‘studies’, often lead to larger pieces in the studio.

I first started Plein Air painting with the Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting during their spring workshops which I still enjoy. The Blue Mountain Foundation of the Arts has a members Plein Air group which is an excellent way to meet fellow artists.
